Managing Shop Sections
Watch Video Tutorial: [VIDEO_PLACEHOLDER]
Shop sections help you organize your products into categories, making it easier for buyers to browse and find what they're looking for. Think of sections like departments in a store - they group related products together!
What Are Shop Sections?
Shop sections are custom categories you create to organize your products. Unlike platform-wide categories (which are fixed), shop sections are unique to YOUR shop and can be anything you want!
Examples of Shop Sections:
- By Collection: "Summer Collection", "Holiday Collection", "New Arrivals"
- By Product Type: "T-Shirts", "Mugs", "Posters", "Hoodies"
- By Theme: "Mountain Designs", "Ocean Designs", "Abstract Art"
- By Popularity: "Best Sellers", "Customer Favorites", "On Sale"
- By Season: "Spring", "Summer", "Fall", "Winter"
- By Occasion: "Gifts", "Home Decor", "Apparel", "Accessories"
Why Use Shop Sections?
Benefits for buyers:
- Easier to browse your shop
- Find related products quickly
- Discover products they might not have searched for
Benefits for you:
- Organize large product catalogs
- Highlight specific collections
- Guide buyers to best sellers
- Create seasonal promotions
- Improve shop navigation
Navigation: Getting to Shop Sections
- Go to your Seller Panel (click your profile icon in the top right, then select "Seller Panel")
- In the left sidebar, click on Shop Settings
- Click on Shop Sections
You'll now see your shop sections management page.
Creating Your First Shop Section
Let's create a shop section step by step!
Step 1: Click "Create Section"
On the Shop Sections page, click the Create Section button in the top right.
Step 2: Enter Section Details
You'll see a form with these fields:
Section Name (Required)
The name of your section as it will appear to buyers.
Examples:
- "Summer Collection"
- "Best Sellers"
- "T-Shirts"
- "Mountain Designs"
Tips:
- Keep it short (2-4 words)
- Make it descriptive
- Use title case (capitalize first letters)
Section Description (Optional)
A brief description of what's in this section.
Example for "Summer Collection":
Bright, vibrant designs perfect for summer adventures! From beach days to hiking trails, these products capture the spirit of the season.
Tips:
- 1-2 sentences
- Explain what buyers will find
- Use engaging language
Display Order (Required)
The order in which this section appears on your shop page (1 = first, 2 = second, etc.).
Example:
- 1: Best Sellers (show first)
- 2: New Arrivals (show second)
- 3: T-Shirts (show third)
- 4: Mugs (show fourth)
Step 3: Save Your Section
Click the Create Section button to save!
Your new section is now created, but it's empty. Let's add products to it!
Adding Products to Sections
There are two ways to add products to sections:
Method 1: From the Section Page
- Go to Shop Settings → Shop Sections
- Click on the section you want to add products to
- Click Add Products
- Select products from your product list (checkboxes)
- Click Add Selected Products
Method 2: From the Product Edit Page
- Go to Products and Orders → My Products
- Click Edit on the product you want to add to a section
- In Step 2 (Product Details), find the Shop Section dropdown
- Select the section you want to add this product to
- Click Save Changes
Pro Tip 💡
Method 2 is faster when editing products anyway! When you're updating a product, just assign it to a section at the same time.
Organizing Your Shop Sections
Recommended Section Structure
Here's a proven structure that works well for most shops:
Option 1: Collection-Based (Best for Seasonal/Themed Shops)
- New Arrivals
- Best Sellers
- Summer Collection
- Winter Collection
- Sale Items
Option 2: Product Type-Based (Best for Multi-Product Shops)
- Best Sellers
- T-Shirts
- Hoodies
- Mugs
- Posters
- Accessories
Option 3: Theme-Based (Best for Design-Focused Shops)
- Featured Designs
- Mountain Collection
- Ocean Collection
- Abstract Art
- Typography
Option 4: Hybrid (Best for Large Shops)
- New Arrivals
- Best Sellers
- Apparel (T-Shirts, Hoodies)
- Home Decor (Mugs, Posters)
- Seasonal Collection
How Many Sections Should You Have?
Ideal number: 3-7 sections
Too few (1-2): Doesn't help buyers navigate
Just right (3-7): Easy to browse, well-organized
Too many (8+): Overwhelming, hard to navigate
Pro Tip 💡
Start with 3-4 sections and add more as your shop grows! You can always add sections later as you add more products.

How to Edit a Section

- Add seasonal messaging
- Highlight new products in the section
- Update for current promotions
Removing Products from Sections
Method 1: From the Section Page
- Go to Shop Settings → Shop Sections
- Click on the section
- Find the product you want to remove
- Click the Remove button (X icon)
- Confirm removal
Note: This only removes the product from the section, not from your shop!
Method 2: From the Product Edit Page
- Go to Products and Orders → My Products
- Click Edit on the product
- In Step 2 (Product Details), find the Shop Section dropdown
- Select "None" or a different section
- Click Save Changes
Deleting Shop Sections
Need to delete a section entirely? Here's how:
How to Delete a Section
- Go to Shop Settings → Shop Sections
- Find the section you want to delete
- Click the Delete button (trash icon)
- Confirm deletion
What Happens When You Delete a Section?
- The section is permanently removed
- Products in that section are NOT deleted
- Products are simply no longer in any section (they're still in your shop)
- You can reassign products to other sections later
Pro Tip 💡
Before deleting a section with many products, consider renaming it instead! You can repurpose an existing section rather than creating a new one.
Best Practices for Shop Sections
1. Use Clear, Descriptive Names
Good names:
- ✅ "Summer Collection" (clear, specific)
- ✅ "Best Sellers" (tells buyers what to expect)
- ✅ "T-Shirts" (straightforward)
Bad names:
- ❌ "Stuff" (vague)
- ❌ "Section 1" (not descriptive)
- ❌ "My Favorites" (not buyer-focused)
2. Keep Sections Focused
Each section should have a clear theme or purpose. Don't mix unrelated products!
Good section:
- "Mountain Collection" → All mountain-themed designs
Bad section:
- "Random Products" → Mix of everything
3. Update Sections Seasonally
Spring/Summer:
- Create "Summer Collection" section
- Move seasonal products here
- Update section descriptions
Fall/Winter:
- Create "Holiday Gifts" section
- Move gift-appropriate products here
- Add holiday messaging
4. Highlight Your Best Products
Create a "Best Sellers" or "Featured" section:
- Put your top-selling products here
- Update it monthly based on sales data
- Show it first (display order = 1)
5. Use Sections for Promotions
During sales:
- Create "On Sale" section
- Move discounted products here
- Show it prominently (display order = 1 or 2)
After sale:
- Remove "On Sale" section
- Move products back to regular sections
6. Don't Over-Organize
Too many sections = confusing navigation
Instead of:
- T-Shirts - Red
- T-Shirts - Blue
- T-Shirts - Black
- Hoodies - Red
- Hoodies - Blue
Just use:
- T-Shirts (all colors)
- Hoodies (all colors)
7. Test Different Organizations
Try different section structures and see what works:
- Monitor which sections get the most clicks
- Ask customers for feedback
- Adjust based on your shop's growth
Common Shop Section Mistakes to Avoid ❌
1. No Sections at All
If you have more than 10 products, you need sections! Buyers won't scroll through 50 unsorted products.
2. Too Many Sections
8+ sections is overwhelming. Consolidate related sections!
3. Empty Sections
Don't create sections until you have products to put in them. Empty sections look unprofessional.
4. Inconsistent Naming
Pick a naming style and stick with it:
- ✅ "Summer Collection", "Winter Collection", "Spring Collection"
- ❌ "Summer Collection", "winter stuff", "SPRING PRODUCTS"
5. Outdated Sections
Remove or update seasonal sections when they're no longer relevant:
- ❌ "Holiday Sale" in March
- ❌ "New Arrivals" from 6 months ago
6. Duplicate Products in Multiple Sections
A product can only be in ONE section. Don't try to add it to multiple sections - it confuses buyers!
7. Ignoring Section Order
The order matters! Put your most important sections first:
- Best Sellers (most important)
- New Arrivals (second most important)
- Everything else
Advanced Section Strategies
Strategy 1: The "New Arrivals" Rotation
How it works:
- Create a "New Arrivals" section
- Add new products here when you list them
- After 30 days, move them to their permanent section
- Keep "New Arrivals" fresh with only recent products
Why it works: Buyers love seeing what's new! This keeps them coming back.
Strategy 2: The "Best Sellers" Showcase
How it works:
- Create a "Best Sellers" section
- Add your top 10-15 selling products
- Update monthly based on sales data
- Show this section first (display order = 1)
Why it works: Social proof! Buyers trust what other buyers are buying.
Strategy 3: The Seasonal Rotation
How it works:
- Create seasonal sections (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring)
- Move products between sections as seasons change
- Update section descriptions for current season
- Archive off-season sections (don't delete, just hide)
Why it works: Keeps your shop relevant and timely!
Strategy 4: The Sale Section
How it works:
- Create "On Sale" section during promotions
- Move discounted products here temporarily
- Show it first during the sale
- Remove section after sale ends
Why it works: Makes it easy for buyers to find deals!
Tracking Section Performance
What to Monitor
Section clicks:
- Which sections get the most clicks?
- Which sections are ignored?
Conversion rates:
- Which sections lead to the most sales?
- Which sections have high views but low sales?
Product distribution:
- Are some sections too full?
- Are some sections too empty?
How to Use This Data
High-performing sections:
- Show them first (lower display order number)
- Add more similar products
- Promote them in your shop announcement
Low-performing sections:
- Consider renaming them
- Move products to better sections
- Delete if consistently underperforming
Examples of Great Section Structures
Example 1: Apparel-Focused Shop
Shop: Mountain Designs Co
Products: T-Shirts, Hoodies, Hats
Sections:
- Best Sellers (top 15 products)
- New Arrivals (last 30 days)
- T-Shirts (all t-shirt products)
- Hoodies (all hoodie products)
- Accessories (hats, stickers, etc.)
Why it works: Clear product type organization with featured sections at the top.
Example 2: Multi-Product Shop
Shop: Vintage Vibes Shop
Products: Various products with vintage designs
Sections:
- Featured Designs (curated selection)
- Travel Posters (vintage travel theme)
- Typography (text-based designs)
- Retro Patterns (geometric/abstract)
- Seasonal Collection (current season)
Why it works: Theme-based organization that showcases design styles.
Example 3: Large Catalog Shop
Shop: Creative Canvas
Products: 100+ products across many types
Sections:
- Best Sellers (top 20)
- New This Month (recent additions)
- Apparel (T-Shirts, Hoodies, Hats)
- Home Decor (Mugs, Posters, Pillows)
- Accessories (Stickers, Pins, Bags)
- Sale Items (discounted products)
Why it works: Hybrid approach with featured sections + product type organization for large catalog.
