Enabling Affiliate Program
Watch Video Tutorial: [VIDEO_PLACEHOLDER]
The affiliate program lets other people promote your products and earn commissions on sales they generate. It's a powerful way to expand your reach and increase sales without upfront marketing costs!
What Is the Affiliate Program?
The affiliate program is a partnership where:
- Affiliates (promoters) share special links to your products
- Buyers click those links and purchase your products
- You make a sale and fulfill the order
- Affiliates earn a commission percentage you set
It's a win-win: You get more sales, affiliates earn money, and buyers discover great products!
Navigation: Getting to Affiliate Settings
There are two ways to enable affiliates for your products:
Method 1: During Product Creation
- Go to Seller Panel → Products and Orders → My Products → Add Product
- Complete Steps 1-3 (Product Type, Details, Variants)
- In Step 4: Images and Settings, find the Affiliate Settings section
- Toggle Enable Affiliate Commission to ON
- Set your commission percentage
- Complete product creation
Method 2: Edit Existing Products
- Go to Seller Panel → Products and Orders → My Products
- Find the product you want to enable affiliates for
- Click Edit
- Navigate to Step 4: Images and Settings
- Find the Affiliate Settings section
- Toggle Enable Affiliate Commission to ON
- Set your commission percentage
- Click Save Changes
How to Enable Affiliates for a Product
Let's walk through enabling affiliates step by step!
Step 1: Toggle Affiliate Commission ON
In the Affiliate Settings section, you'll see a toggle switch labeled Enable Affiliate Commission.
- OFF (gray): Affiliates cannot promote this product
- ON (green): Affiliates can promote this product and earn commissions
Click the toggle to turn it ON (green).
Step 2: Set Your Commission Percentage
Once enabled, you'll see a field to enter your Commission Percentage.
What is commission percentage?
This is the percentage of the product price that affiliates earn when they generate a sale.
Example:
- Product price: $25
- Commission: 10%
- Affiliate earns: $2.50 per sale
- You earn: $22.50 per sale
How to Choose Your Commission Percentage
Typical commission rates:
- 5-10%: Low commission (you keep more profit)
- 10-15%: Standard commission (balanced approach)
- 15-20%: High commission (attracts more affiliates)
- 20%+: Very high commission (aggressive growth strategy)
Factors to consider:
- Your profit margin: Don't set commission so high that you lose money!
- Product price: Higher-priced products can afford lower percentages
- Competition: What are similar sellers offering?
- Growth stage: New shops might offer higher commissions to attract affiliates
Pro Tip 💡
Start with 10-15% commission! This is the sweet spot for most products. You can always adjust later based on performance.
Step 3: Save Your Settings
Click Save Changes (if editing) or Create Product (if creating new).
Your product is now available for affiliates to promote!
Understanding How Affiliate Commissions Work
The Affiliate Sales Process
Here's exactly what happens when an affiliate promotes your product:
Step 1: Affiliate Gets Their Link
- Affiliate finds your product in the affiliate dashboard
- They click "Get Affiliate Link"
- System generates a unique tracking link (e.g.,
yourshop.com/product/mountain-tshirt?ref=affiliate123)
Step 2: Affiliate Promotes
- Affiliate shares the link on their blog, social media, email list, etc.
- Their audience sees the link and clicks it
Step 3: Buyer Purchases
- Buyer clicks the affiliate link
- Buyer lands on your product page
- Buyer adds product to cart and completes purchase
- System tracks that this sale came from the affiliate
Step 4: Commission is Calculated
- System calculates commission based on your percentage
- Commission is recorded in affiliate's account
- You see the commission amount in your earnings breakdown
Step 5: Everyone Gets Paid
- You receive payment for the sale (minus commission and platform fees)
- Affiliate receives their commission on the next payout cycle
- Buyer receives their product
Commission Calculation Examples
Example 1: Standard Commission
- Product price: $20
- Commission rate: 10%
- Affiliate earns: $2.00
- You earn: $18.00 (before platform fees)
Example 2: Higher Commission
- Product price: $35
- Commission rate: 15%
- Affiliate earns: $5.25
- You earn: $29.75 (before platform fees)
Example 3: Multiple Items
- Buyer purchases 3 items @ $25 each = $75 total
- Commission rate: 12%
- Affiliate earns: $9.00
- You earn: $66.00 (before platform fees)
When Are Commissions Paid?
To affiliates:
- Commissions are paid on a monthly schedule
- Minimum payout threshold: $50
- Payment method: PayPal, bank transfer, or other methods
To you:
- You receive your earnings (minus commissions) on your regular payout schedule
- Commission amounts are clearly shown in your transaction history
Managing Affiliate Settings
Changing Commission Rates
You can change commission rates anytime:
- Go to Products and Orders → My Products
- Click Edit on the product
- Navigate to Step 4: Images and Settings
- Update the Commission Percentage
- Click Save Changes
Important: Commission rate changes only apply to NEW sales. Existing affiliate links continue to use the rate that was active when the link was created.
Disabling Affiliates for a Product
To stop affiliates from promoting a product:
- Go to Products and Orders → My Products
- Click Edit on the product
- Navigate to Step 4: Images and Settings
- Toggle Enable Affiliate Commission to OFF
- Click Save Changes
What happens:
- Existing affiliate links stop working (redirect to product page without tracking)
- Affiliates can no longer generate new links for this product
- Existing pending commissions are still paid out
Bulk Enabling Affiliates
Want to enable affiliates for multiple products at once?
Option 1: Set Default During Creation
- When creating new products, always enable affiliates in Step 4
- Use the same commission rate for consistency
Option 2: Edit Multiple Products
- Go through your product list
- Edit each product and enable affiliates
- Use the same commission rate for similar products
Pro Tip 💡: Set a standard commission rate (e.g., 12%) for all products to keep things simple!
Best Practices for Affiliate Program
1. Set Competitive Commission Rates
Research what others offer:
- Check similar products on the platform
- Look at commission rates in your niche
- Aim to match or slightly exceed average rates
Why it matters: Higher commissions attract more affiliates, but too high cuts into your profits.
2. Enable Affiliates for Best Sellers
Start with your top products:
- Enable affiliates for products that already sell well
- These are easier for affiliates to promote (proven demand)
- You'll see results faster
Why it matters: Affiliates want to promote products that convert. Proven sellers = more affiliate interest.
3. Provide Marketing Materials
Help affiliates succeed:
- High-quality product images they can use
- Product descriptions they can copy
- Suggested social media posts
- Email templates
Where to provide these: In your product descriptions, shop announcements, or direct communication with affiliates.
Why it matters: The easier you make it for affiliates, the more they'll promote your products!
4. Communicate with Your Affiliates
Stay in touch:
- Respond to affiliate questions quickly
- Share new product launches
- Announce special promotions
- Provide performance tips
How to communicate: Through the platform's messaging system or email.
Why it matters: Engaged affiliates promote more actively!
5. Monitor Affiliate Performance
Track what's working:
- Which affiliates generate the most sales?
- Which products get promoted most?
- What commission rates work best?
Where to check: Seller Panel → Financial → Affiliate Commissions
Why it matters: Data helps you optimize your affiliate strategy!
6. Adjust Rates Based on Performance
Optimize over time:
- If a product isn't getting affiliate attention, increase commission
- If a product is very popular, you might lower commission slightly
- Test different rates to find the sweet spot
Why it matters: Flexibility helps you maximize both sales and profits!
Common Affiliate Program Mistakes to Avoid ❌
1. Setting Commission Too Low
Mistake: Offering 5% commission when competitors offer 15%
Result: Affiliates ignore your products and promote competitors instead
Solution: Research competitive rates and match or exceed them
2. Setting Commission Too High
Mistake: Offering 25% commission when your profit margin is only 30%
Result: You barely make any profit after commissions and platform fees
Solution: Calculate your actual profit margin and set sustainable rates
3. Not Enabling Affiliates at All
Mistake: Thinking "I don't need affiliates, I can market myself"
Result: Missing out on free marketing and additional sales
Solution: Enable affiliates for at least your best sellers - there's no downside!
4. Inconsistent Commission Rates
Mistake: Product A has 10% commission, Product B has 20%, Product C has 8%
Result: Confuses affiliates, makes your program look disorganized
Solution: Use consistent rates across similar products (e.g., all T-Shirts = 12%)
5. Ignoring Affiliate Questions
Mistake: Not responding when affiliates ask about products or promotions
Result: Affiliates lose interest and stop promoting your products
Solution: Respond to all affiliate inquiries within 24 hours
6. No Marketing Materials
Mistake: Expecting affiliates to create all their own promotional content
Result: Affiliates struggle to promote effectively, give up
Solution: Provide images, descriptions, and suggested copy they can use
7. Disabling Affiliates Without Notice
Mistake: Suddenly turning off affiliate program for a product
Result: Affiliates lose trust, stop promoting all your products
Solution: Give advance notice if you need to disable affiliates
